Family-owned furniture delivery and removals across Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.
Phil’s Furniture Freighters is a family-owned furniture delivery and removals business based in Doreen, Victoria.
We specialise in careful furniture transport between Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney, along with selected regional deliveries, one-off pickups and small moves.
The business is built around a straightforward idea: handle the furniture properly, communicate honestly and remain accountable from collection through to final placement.
Phil Greenhalgh started working in furniture removals at age 13 in 1990. Since then, he has worked across almost every scale of furniture transport—from individual handcrafted pieces and household furniture to large interstate stock transfers.
Over the years, Phil has operated several different trucks and furniture combinations.
A Mercedes-Benz Atego travelled approximately 1.2 million kilometres during its working life. At a separate point in his career, Phil operated a Mercedes-Benz Actros with two furniture trailers of approximately 100 m³ each for large stock-transfer work.
Phil also spent approximately two years completing interstate runs to and from Perth.
The current Isuzu has travelled around 1.2 million kilometres as well.
Those kilometres are not mentioned simply as a number. They represent decades of loading trucks, planning routes, solving access problems and learning how different furniture needs to be protected, carried and secured.
Phil’s earlier work included high-volume interstate furniture transport and large stock transfers.
Today, Phil’s Furniture Freighters is deliberately focused on a more personal and specialised service. We regularly transport custom furniture, antiques, designer pieces, new retail furniture, pianos, artworks, recliners, outdoor settings, cabinetry and selected small household loads.
Different furniture presents different challenges. Weight, balance, shape, materials, finishes, moving parts and access all need to be considered before an item is carried or loaded.
That practical experience cannot be replaced by an online booking system or a freight label.
Over the years, PFF has worked with furniture makers, retailers, designers, auction houses, private sellers and individual customers.
Some of the makers were small businesses when we first began carrying their work. We continued working with them until their delivery volumes or changing requirements became more than our operation could reasonably support.
This experience has exposed us to a wide range of furniture, materials, construction methods and delivery requirements. It has also shown us that there is no single handling method that suits every piece.
Our job is to understand what we are carrying and make sensible decisions about protection, loading, transport and placement.
For a furniture maker or retailer, the sales process does not finish when the piece leaves the workshop, showroom or warehouse. Delivery is the final part of the customer’s experience.
A poor delivery reflects badly on the transport company, but it can also reflect on the business that made or sold the furniture. Customers do not always separate the quality of the product from how it arrived, how they were kept informed or how they were treated at the door.
We take that responsibility seriously. Our job is to protect the furniture, communicate clearly, provide realistic timing, carry it safely into the property and place it properly.
When another business trusts PFF with its customer’s order, we understand that we are representing both our own name and theirs.
PFF is not built around high-volume, rushed courier handling.
Suitable furniture is protected with removal blankets, loaded securely and carried by people who understand what they are handling. Wherever practical, the same team and vehicle remain responsible for the furniture from pickup through to delivery.
Depending on the booking, our service can include:
We take the time to understand the furniture, access conditions and customer expectations before agreeing to the job.
Furniture transport does not always run to the minute. Traffic, access, loading conditions and earlier deliveries can affect the day.
For scheduled interstate deliveries, we normally provide an approximate two-hour delivery timeframe the day before. We then send an update when we are on the way.
Our approach is to provide realistic information rather than make promises we cannot keep.
You deal directly with Phil and the PFF team—not a call centre that has never seen your furniture or spoken to the driver.
We do not accept every job. If the route, access, timing, item or available truck space does not suit, we will say so honestly.
Our main interstate service operates along the Melbourne–Canberra–Sydney corridor in both directions.
We also complete suitable deliveries throughout Melbourne and selected parts of regional Victoria, New South Wales and the ACT when they fit the planned route and available capacity.
Other interstate destinations may be available for suitable larger loads or specialist projects by arrangement.
If your pickup or delivery is outside the main corridor, send us the suburbs, furniture details, dimensions, photographs and access information. We will let you know whether the job can be handled properly.
Phil’s Furniture Freighters remains a hands-on family business.
That means the person discussing your booking understands the truck, the route and the work involved. It also means our name is directly attached to how your furniture is handled and how you are treated.
We are not trying to be the largest furniture carrier. We want to remain a reliable specialist service for customers, makers and retailers who care about the condition of their furniture and want the job handled properly.
Tell us what needs moving, where it is being collected, where it is going and what the access is like.
Please include photographs and the three approximate dimensions of each item where possible. This helps us assess the required space, handling and likely cost accurately.
